White Sage Wrapped with Colored Rose Petals

Spaces can accumulate emotional residue from stress, conflict, or other negative experiences. Smudging is believed to clear away these residual energies. When smudging remember to open a window or door to allow the negativity to leave your home.  When you light your smudge stick let it burn for about 20 seconds and then blow it out. What you want is the smoke. BE SURE TO HAVE A HEAT RESISTANT BOWL to catch any embers that might fall. I was taught to stand at the front door and using the smudge stick to go go around all openings like doors and windows. Go into each room, moving to the right as much as you can until you come back to the original place you started. You want to make sure that you get as much smoke as you can in corners, as that is where negativity like to hang out. There are many different ways to smudge, but this is how I was taught. When you are done take your smudge stick and dab it in sand or anything that will put out the embers. Be sure to put the smudge stick in a fireproof dish and keep an eye on it to make sure all embers are out. Because it is so dry, it can re-ignite. You can use your smudge stick again if there is enough. Do not put it out with water, or you won't be able to use it again.
